The I.L.E. was started in 1982. It is located in a converted house in one of the coastal residential neighbourhoods of Montevideo, less than 100 metres away from a main avenue, and at only 300 metres from the coast and the sandy beach of Pocitos. It is within walking distance to shopping centres, cinemas and theatres, cafés, restaurants, cyber cafés, gyms, sports clubs and banks.
A fifteen minute ride leads to the town centre, the old city and the port area where the "mercado del puerto" and its famous steak houses is. A city highlight not to miss, especially on Saturdays.

Our teachers are qualified native speakers who have the educational credentials to teach Spanish as a foreign language. They either have university degrees in linguistics or are secondary school official teachers. All of them are fluent in at least one foreign language and are acquainted with the experience of travelling and living abroad. Their experience contributes to keep the students motivated and enthusiastic through an intense interaction and individual guiding.

Our students are from countries in all continents. Intercultural groups are a distinct feature of the institute which adds to the interest of being far from home and learning a language in an immersion situation, sharing the experience in a multinational setting.

Our lessons are structured according to your personal requirements. Starting at your own level, we teach you the Spanish you need according to your profession or your plans, whether you are a diplomat, expert, business person or traveller. Our courses are suitable for all levels of Spanish, from a complete beginner's to an advanced knowledge of the language. Start dates and course lengths are extremely flexible to suit your convenience.

Our standard one-to-one tuition is intensive, 20 hours a week, complemented by conversation group lessons with an average five hour weekly programme. The number of hours can be changed to meet your personal needs.

During the over 20 years of our experience in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language we created our own teaching material and text books, practice oriented and designed to develop effective communicative skills.

Our lessons can take place outside the classroom as well. Students can spend a few days on a farm (at an extra cost) learning Spanish while enjoying the natural beauties of the Uruguayan countryside. Riding on horseback and sharing the experience of rural life are additional sources of interest.
